Reeder Custom Guns - I have these BassPro points saved up....

called the store and they said you could cash in the points buying a firearm in the store. Looking around though they have everything marked full retail. The whole store is higher on about anything you'd care to look at. I wanted a Taurus TX22 but they list them at $350. That's $90 higher than some other advertised places with them in stock. Wonder if they honor competitor's advertised prices?

I'd really like to have one of those and get shed of my points.

and respect over the years, seem guys come and go. Not many people left like that, which you can trust their opinion. Guys who objective "test" something and are not simply salesmen That's one of the few reasons to buy a truly good Gun magazine. If they have a guy on staff that you trust to give you the real skinny you can spend $8 and know you have been informed on some critical input.

I have not read or found anyone that said anything negative about the Taurus TX22. The only exception at all may be the safety is tucked in too good and can be a little tricky or slick to work sometimes. Other than that, the reliability, accuracy, and ergonomics are all very highly marked. I like the suppressor ready barrel (some others use this feature too) and class leading magazine capacity. Almost 50% more rounds than some. The innovative trigger system is something I'd be interested in experiencing. I did see one photograph where the barrel riflings looked very different, I first thought it was toolmarks. It may be something else. I note that oddly most high-velocity ammo exits the Taurus at sub-sonic levels. Actually a very favored trait! Not as loud and with the suppressor a true boon not having to buy special sub-sonic ammo.

I anxiously await your pending test report to be published! Keep up the tremendous and respected work.

Warehouse and all the other big box stores are usually close to full retail. They are always higher than your local gun shop, yet some morons keep buying their stuff there. I have been in one Cabelas store in my life and that time John Taffin took me in to see the Elmer Keith exhibit. That was worth going thru the door. Other than that I have never and will never shop at any of those stores and don't have a lot of respect for any gun owner that does. Nuff said.

here in town but I bought most of my stuff, probably at full retail, from the Cabelas. If I needed some work I took it to the little gun shop but other than that it was Cabelas. Then my little gun shop closed the doors and now if I have a small problem I have to drive 2 hours each way to a shop that has a gunsmith. For my big stuff I send it to GNR. But I sure wish I had supported my local shop a bit more.

have them in Oklahoma, not sure where else, if they buy them in bulk they have good prices, usually Rossi and Taurus on sale, even my local gunshops recommend them for anything box stock off the shelf(better pricing than what they can for from distributor), have to know who to buy from here, several dealers are outrageous charging full or over retail unless you are law enforcement, and act as if their glocks and S&W M&P's are somehow better than anywhere else.

Now I have like $100 worth of "points" but by golly there is almost nothing in the store (maybe some clothes on closeout perhaps) that I can get to realize the actual points value.

I was thinking about a tent, sleeping bag, some hunting item. But it's real hard when they mark up so much higher. In realty unless I truly shop hard I might get $30 for my $100 points. It's a little bit of a scam.

That Taurus is in there store for $350 + 10% sales tax = $385 minus the online rebate that I have to mail in, $335 final price. But my dealer can get one for $280, $308 w/tax then minus the $50 rebate that's only $258. Plus I do not have to drive to LR, 110 miles round trip. It sort of pisses all over my $100 points.

Maybe I can buy a rain slicker on sale...

BUY A MARLIN LEVERMATIC .22 AT $299. I WAS THE FIRST ONE IN THE STORE AND IT TOOK 65 MINUTES TO GET THROUGH. I ALSO BOUGHT A MARLIN 24" 39A .22 FROM MY LOCAL SHOP BUCKHORN. TOOK 5 MINUTES TO DO THE PAPERWORK. I SCOPED 'EM BOTH AND THE BUCKHORN MARLIN RUNS PERFECTLY AND SHOOTS ACCURATELY. TOOK ME $160 TO GET THE CABELA'S LEVERMATIC WORKING PROPERLY.

gun guy and he pays for his stuff with a Cabelas card and is wearing Levi jeans and an Under Armor jacket. I used to tell people wearing Levis and Under Armor that they were 2 of the biggest anti guns companies there are. But they would just look at me like I was a bit warped, so I don't say a word these days.

In their store (no, I haven't been in there, I was told this), they have a "gunsmith on duty" sign up. One fellow told me he asked to talk to the gunsmith about a problem with a gun he had just bought there. The clerk stammered a bit and said he couldn't talk to him. This turned into a bit of an argument. When the dust cleared the fellow was told that the gunsmith was in their Utah home office and the gun would have to be shipped up there for the work and they would give him a call when it came back, if he lived that long. I don't think they are doing a lot of gunsmithing business.

and other things on the Cabela's card. I had over $1000.00 in points. I also decided to get rid of the card, but I, and the wife, went through the store and picked things out. As I went about grabbing ammo, reloading components, etc., I didn't worry about the price. Yes, it took us two or three trips to spend the points, as the stock carried isn't what it used to be. But, it's done now. The money that we didn't spend for those items, is money we can spend some where else.

Cabela's, but it's gone now. I don't know if there were Keith exhibits at other Cabela's. A Cabela's employee told the family had decided to sell it off.

TO CLOSE THE MUSEUM. THEY KEPT THE GAME TROPHIES. THEY NEVER,EVER ADVERTIZED THE MUSEUM. I PLACED ALL THE GUNS AND WROTE THEIR DESCRIPTION. ALSO DID THE SCRIPT FOR ELMER SEATED AT HIS DESK TO SHARE WITH EVERYONE.THEY WOULDN'T EVEN KEEP THEM DUSTED OFF. THEY HAD A GREAT EXCLUSIVE DRAW BUT NEVER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF IT. I HAD SEVERAL FOLKS TRAVEL HERE JUST TO SEE ELMER'S COLLECTION.

exhibit I was looking at the guns on the right wall and had my back to Elmer Keith sitting at his desk. When "he" turned and started talking, it got my attention real quick. But the guns were great to see, especially his big bore double rifles. Being an Africa hunting freak the double guns were the first things I wanted to see. I enjoyed the visit to Elmer and thank John for giving me the chance to see it. The rest of Cabelas did nothing for me.

During the 3 days I spent up there with John and then later Jim Taylor when he got there, were interesting to say the least. John showed me every cafe, restaurant and dining joint in Boise. On one of our first stops, for breakfast if I remember right, before I got out of the truck, I turned to John and told him I was carrying a gun and asked him if he had a gun on too. He said no, then paused and said "I have 3 guns on me". Seems like one was a little J frame smith and the second one was a North American Arms mini revolver. Not sure what the other one was, but knowing John it was probably the big boy of the 3.

in Rancho Cucamonga for a couple years, no I will not shop there. That place is only after making as much profit as possible, I could tell you stories that would turn your stomach about the way they treat their employees.
