Reeder Custom Guns - The Reeder 38-40 Continues to impress..

After Gary's post about Hollow Point penetration, or rather the lack of it, I'm trying some hard cast bullets.

This time I went with Missouri Bullets 200 grn. It had the lube groove nearer the base and would allow longer seating.

So far, I've worked up to 1500 fps with 2400 powder. Recoil is about like a 41 Magnum which is expected.

Accuracy and trajectory is very impressive to boot.

All references point to about 26-28,000 psi. I have no way to check this except pressure tested data. Case life is exceptional and they still drop from the chamber with no resistance.

I have no desire or intent to go beyond 30k psi with these thin cases. But, have loaded some 11 times now with no failures.

Bullets are sized to match throats. Ammo requires a slight push as the long seated bullets enter the throats.

I like about 1100 fps, just subsonic where it goes "Boom" rather than "Ka-pow". I have the old Ideal 175 gr. mould in both regular and HP. Works well and mimics old vintage loads, great in .40 and 10mm too. Also I have custom 200 gr. FNGC and spectacular 230 gr. FNGC moulds. The latter at 1100 fps would do about anything I needed it to and still be so pleasant to shoot in a light gun.

Even in the 900-1000 fps range the old warrior still delivers. Have you seen Taffin's article on the .38 WCF on the net? Lots of great loads and info.

Already have a Weaver K4 set aside for it. Will be an eye opening component of this research.

Gary's reamer is perfect for Starline Brass and Lee Dies. Brass barely needs resizing and lasts very well.

I've never been normal and make no excuses. While the crowds flock around the Black Rifles and Whiz-Bang Magnums, I'm going backwards.

Plus many loading manuals. Several had high pressure data for rifles that works great in the super strong Reeder gun.

Mountain Moulds will let you make your own, it's great! Also you can take a LEE push through sizer in .401" and force a .410" cast bullet through on a good press (not a cheap alloy one). Actually you can lightly lube a JSP or JHP .410" and make a .401" in the same manner. Really! I've done many. The shank on a cast bullet will not be altered so that makes things a little more complicated. If the bullets already have a gas check on them you are good to go. They pop out 0.401".

0.010" is all I ever want to go doing this IMO.

I think mine are out of production but
