TV on for some background music and some rap came on. I real quick changed the channel and found "The Making of Motown". Being in radio for over 22 years as a DJ the music of Motown was part of me. About halfway thru my years in radio I went from a standard rock station (actually several of them) to more of a kick ass rock station. But during most of that time we played a lot of Motown records. groups like the Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smoky Robinson, Mary Wells, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder and so much more were all part of me. As I watched the show it really brought back a lot of memories. Our radio station in Nashville had several of those groups and singers in concert and it really brought back memories. But it also made me feel old. Mary Wells, who was a slender light brown beauty was now old, fat and frumpy. The Temptations with Eddie Kendricks as lead singer were all tall, slim and so active on stage, they were now happy to be sitting in a soft easy chair, mostly bald and overweight.
As I watched Stevie Wonder in 1963 singing Fingertips part 2, (he was 12 then) I remembered that i was 5 years older than him then, so I must still be 5 years older and stevie was sitting in a chair, maybe 75 to 100 lbs overweight and looking a lot older than I remembered him.
It was a good show and I really enjoyed reliving the memories I had almost forgotten. The songs, the concerts, the girls, the groupies, the chippies, the girls, the young ladies, the girls...well you get my drift. But looking at how they have aged sure reminds me that we aren't invincible and that time moves on. It's just a bit harder keeping up with it these days.
