as the round is basically a .257 Roberts necked to .24, or 7x57 Mauser done so. However you want to look at it. The parent case is basically the European 7mm or 8mm Mauser. I know the .257 Roberts came before the .243's were first popular.
The 6mm has a little more capacity than the .243 Win. but not enough to amount to anything. It's main attribute is the long case neck that is supposed to support a bullet better. Again that is a bit subjective. However the Remington seems a bit more well behaved than the Winchester 6mm which can do an odd thing for no reason reloading. Generally both are great cartridges and unless you are cutting dime sized, 10 shot groups, at 200 meters I don't think you will notice the short action vs standard length. Ditto the few ounces of weight difference.
