I have had a lot of questions about the terrain, the animals, the guns needed and such. So here goes. The HHC takes in about 4 large areas. One is a very steep canyon that has a lot of hogs down in a small stream at the bottom. That one is for Blake Naugle, Kase and a few other mountain goats. They call it the canyon.

Near that area is an area that has a big pond and normally a lot of Bison, Water Buffalo and Elk. It is usually hip high in thick weeds and surrounded by heavy woods.

Another area is a large open field that also has a pond in it that is good for drowning Nilgai. It has heavy woods all around it. Normally if the animals are out in the open field feeding we do a sneak in the woods around the edge of the field and get a shot at maybe 55 to 65 yards. There are usually elk, red stag, Bison, and other buffalo in there along with exotic breeds of deer and sheep. Some of the animals shown here were shot from the woods in the background.

There is also a large corn field where the corn is so thick you can't see a hog 5 feet in front of you. All around the edge of the corn field is some really high brush. Quite often the hogs and other critters will be in the corn field or around the edge of the corn field. Shots there are quick and close range. Hogs can be right at your feet before you even see them.

Then there are the wooded areas where the hogs tend to stay. They are full of large boulders that the hogs lay beside and jump up as you get near. Hogs everywhere. And you will see some sheep and goats in there too.

More pics coming up in a bit. As far as guns are concerned. You won't need any long range rifles at all. The longest shot you might find will be 65 or 70 yards. A good handgun on your hip will be best as many shots are close range. Open sights on the handgun are best as sometimes the hog might be 5 feet away from you before you see him and at that range a scope is useless. A scoped contender or Encore are great for this hunt with a revolver as back up. More on this as we go along.
