There's just something about those old Colts

I am not sure what all it is ... but there is something about them that no other gun evokes in me.

Part of it may be they were THE gun of the day when I was a kid. My great-uncle carried a Colt single action in 38 Long Colt. Everyone called it a "Big Gun".

Dad always had several around. We had one .45 on the ranch that was stepped on by a horse. It hit about 10 feet to the left at 100 yards. We just learned where to hold to get our shots in.

Dad also had a Colt SAA .45 from the Miller's 101 Ranch. It was a 7 1/2" smoothbore, made for trick shots, using shot.

I grew up with them and can remember when Ruger was fairly a newcomer in the Single Action game.

I dont have any personal history

but I know for me and many, it evokes the Spirt of the west, a fairly short time period that has inspired countless songs, movies, plays, shooting matches, even in other countries. Mostly due not to history but the ol black and whites and Saturday matinees, we associate the colt 45, model p, peacemaker, and numerous other monikers with the lawmen and outlaws we pretended to be.

I enjoy bringing the old ones back to life but this one
