when I put down one of my cows. I had a big old Hereford cow that hadn't given me any calves in 3 years and we decided to eat her instead of feeding her.

The butcher would come out to pasture and kill and quarter them right there. When he came out this time I asked him if he would mind if I put her down. He had nothing against that so I took the old Colt and got some range cubes.

I had it loaded with Balloon-Head cases with as close to 40 gr. of FFg Black powder as I could get. I used the old Lyman 454190 bullet ... looks like the original Colt .45 bullet.

I threw the range cubes on the ground and when she put her head down and started to eat them I shot her in the head .. right on the "X" between the eye the ear.

She never knew what hit her. Just an instant Lights Out.

The bullet went on through and into the dirt. Those old blackpowder loads were nothing to make light of.
