I got the frame pins driven out and the trigger pin. I was able to get the trigger guard off and get the internals out. Also got the hinge screw out so the barrels off the frame.

What's interesting is the trigger return spring and the cylinder pawl spring both have life! I am gonna see if I can polish them.

There are no threads left in the frame where the hinge screws threads. But since the hinge screw is a two-sized screw with a smaller thread area diameter it will be easy enough to replace it and re-thread the frame.

The hammer screw may have to be drilled. I will see after soaking it some more.

You might try

hitting it with a bit of localized heat to help via expansion/contraction of the steel so that oil can penetrate easier.

You don't think heat would weaken it?

You WANT to weaken the grip of the oxidation on the steel!

:-D

https://www.evapo-rust.com

I've used this on some automotive & cast iron parts. It's fantastic!

Suspect it might work to well for firearms & might remove the blueing.

It'll strip the bluing, but if I recall correctly

the worst part is that it might destroy springs. Don't know if it was Naval Jelly or Evap-o-rust or some other product, it's hard on springs. My wife's uncle had an old muzzle loading horse pistol he decided to clean up with such a product and the first time he cocked it afterwards the mainspring snapped.

On the other hand, there's not much bluing left on the old H&R anyway!
