Here is a question for you that might make you think

before you answer. Let's say you lost your carry gun or guns, what gun or guns would you buy to replace them. And a serious answer, not some $10,000 gun made from a frozen Ubangi Hippo turd.
My first thought would be to build another 45 Backpacker on an alloy frame in 45 ACP, but that would be cheating as this question is for a factory made carry gun. So I need to think about this as I don't keep up with all the new whiz bang solves all problems handgun. But what would you choose?

Kase said he would go with the new version of the

Sig 365. I am not sure he is related to me. He builds some of the finest full custom 1911s in the world he goes with a Sig?

I'd go with a Springfield hellcat or an FN micro.

Glock 29 or a Rock Island 1911 10mm

I am set in my ways with a 4 3/4" SAA, the 1911,

the NAA WMR, a G43 which lives in the vehicle since it can be totally neglected year round, and latest is a Ruger Alaskan .454 used as a compact stainless .45 Colt handload launcher. If I lost any of them, I would boringly buy an exact duplicate.

I am with you on the SAA and the 1911

but for a smaller gun I would opt for another Star PD.

OK. I stand corrected. If the G43 were stolen,

I will buy a Star PD. And likely should have, in the first place. Am quite sure I could shoot it better than any Glock.

But, sticking with the Alaskan despite absurd

price hikes, as just not that many DA stainless snubbie .45 Colts from which to choose, even if it does weigh as much as a loaded 1911 with spare magazine. Ditto a SAA with 6 extra rounds.

New S&W 5.7 might be a good one

Gas operated system may be just what the 5.7 needs. I had an FN and now have the Ruger. The trigger is bad on both, but in different ways.
I’m not really a S&W semi-auto fan, but that 5.7 sounds like it might be better than either the FN or the Ruger.
The BRNO 7.5 is almost twice the price, but shoots flat and almost gets to the 300GNR power wise.

Regret. They go for too much used. So the 44 would be my choice now. I haveA Taurus ultra light in 44. My only complaint is the sure size of it. The P210 Carry has the deal and near size of the star BKM witch is getting really hard to come across in really good condition. My wife and I both carry the BKM and really like them for a 9mm carry package

Or a CZ P01

would be my 1st preference because it has been my companion for 4 decades. But if that weren’t in the cards, I’d feel comfortable and comforted if I had a 3” barreled S&W Model 60 stoked with 125 JHPs.

Carry guns for me are different in concept.

factory produced items in particular are bland. It's not a pleasurable duty I enjoy. I do not like CCW in particular. I do take the task seriously. In my stock I have many that can be used.

Short answer is Glock 23.

I can drop a different barrel in it and shoot 9mm also, or .357 SIG if I so chose. Even .22 LR or .224 TCM. Hard to argue the versatility. But said that it has no charm, it's a tool. I do not really enjoy it other than it's simplicity and proven reliability. Were the limit set to revolvers I'd choose a 7-shot S&W 686 even though I deplore the safety. Thankfully I have one that was produced before that nonsense.

I also have a G30s in .45 ACP that is the same size. It's my modern PD with 4 or 5 more rounds and will never wear out.

I’m Boring … another Shield45 and a Ruger LW 1911.
