I had a young fellow that watched the news recently and it scared the chitlins out of him. He called and asked me what guns I would recommend for when the chips hit the fan. A friend of his said to have one gun for just in case. I told him one gun wouldn't cover all the situations that might come up. So here is where you Misfits come in. I told him to take a look at the forum, that you guys would have some good answers. I realize we have done this before, maybe a year or two ago but things have really changed in this country since then. So here we go.
If you could only have 3 guns for when the chit hits the fan, what would they be? Now I assume he meant one rifle, one handgun and one shotgun. So have at it. And I am anxious to see your responses on this. 3 guns only (and that is the hard part).

loaded mags, a Mossberg Shockwave and AK 47 and a load of loaded mags... If I load 45acp to equal the amount of 9mm I have then the handgun may change to a Combat Commander SR1911. These firearms are to get me upstate to my sister`s home and once there I also have a M1-A and crazy accurate M-1 Garand where they would come into there own in the rural area...:-) [image]

You will find easily. 22 mag, 20 ga, and stuff like that will not be laying around. AKs, ARs, will be everywhere, as will be 9mm, 45, 223/556, 7.62, 12ga and some others

My friend CHIPKING and I have had this discussion for hours on end over the last several years. He has his opinions and I have mine.
My opinion is that in the event of a SHTF scenario, the most prevalent ammo available, if we do not already have a cache, would be NATO rounds. This means: 12 Gauge shotgun, 9MM or .45ACP handgun and .22LR, or .223./.556 or .308 rifle rounds.
If this is the scenario, a pump shotgun in 12 gauge would be my first choice. A Mossberg 500/590 or a Remington 870 would be the ideal choice in this scenario.
My second choice would be a 10/22 Ruger in .22LR. Marginal personal protection but game gathering and
My third choice would be a handgun. I have many ideas about this but my personal preference is a single action semi-auto. A 1911 in .45ACP would be my first choice for this because I am familiar with the controls and have carried one for the last 30 years. Next in line would be a Hi-Power in 9mm only because the controls are the same. A Glock 19 in 9mm or a Glock 21 in .45 ACP would be acceptable……………..jut not for me.

considering your red dawn scenario I would have a Mossberg stainless boat gun in 12 gauge pump with a laser, a Ruger ranch rifle in 7.62x39, and a Glock 30 in .45 cal or a 9 mm FN , but considering the enemy, maybe a 9mm Makarov

Brand not really important but Glock is good, 26,19,17 etc. shorties take longer mags OR a good .357 revolver.

The .357is natural, powerful as some carbines and can shoot .38 Special. But has the 9mm auto eclipsed the revolver to the point ammo availability for the wheelgun might be spotty.

Final Answer: My Ruger BH (Reeder Custom) with the three cylinders. .356 GNR, .357, and 9mm Luger.

In the post above .Kase mentioned the situation

a Mossberg M500 plain Jane shotgun.

My rationale is that if the SHTF in the New England area the biggest issue will be, and I hate to say it, other people. I know I am trying to be a better man but there is a fact that if society collapses you will have to deal with the "Golden Horde".

Pistol: Glock M17 Gen 4 with an aftermarket threaded barrel for a suppressor. I know I do not live in a state that allows the ownership of a suppressor but if the balloon goes up it will not matter. I want a full sized pistol with the capability to be suppressed for subsistence hunting as well as clandestine self defense.

Rifle: Mossberg Patrol Rifle in 308 Winchester. A common caliber and the patrol model comes with ten shot magazines. This would be for long range defense as well as subsistence hunting .

Shotgun: A plain Model 500 in 12 gauge. 22 inch barrel with a big bead. Threaded for chokes as I may use it for hunting as well as home defense. Nothing fancy. Just plain wood stocks.

FN 5-7 x 28,AK 12. Gauge clip fed, HK G91 308.

gun owner wants just one gun should have a .22 to start with if they've never owned a gun. In a SHTF situation you can pack way more .22 ammo than anything else.

And make sure you have your vehicle SHTF ready as well as a bag ready should you have the need to leave your castle. If you’re planning on staying on the green side of the grass, you’ll need to be prepared for more than just defending yourself. That’s a subject onto itself.
