From time to time I get an e-mail letting me know what a

dumb ass I am for calling the cartridge the "45 Long Colt". I had such an e-mail over the long weekend and are just now getting around to answering it. I was brought up calling it the 45 Long Colt by a father that saw and shot both cartridges although the 45 short colt was called the 45 Government. There was a lot of confusion during WW2 over 4 different 45 caliber cartridges. Cartridges of the World clears it all up in the explanation of the 45 Government.
Now to answer the fellow who said the cartridge has never been listed as the 45 Long Colt in any publication, here are some pics from the Sierra reloading manual. They even refer to a certain bullet as the "45 Long Colt bullet". Nuff said.
And as far as me being a dumb ass, I have a couple of ex wives that will agree with you on that.
