A Puzzlement

I have a H and R pistol, model 604. Serial no AU139234. Nice condition, from Gardner Mass., barrel about 7 inches. On the barrel is imprinted 22WMRF . So I went out to shoot several new 22WMR rounds and the shells would not eject easily and had to be hammered out of the cylinder with a rod. So did I shoot the wrong cartridge in this pistol? What cartridge should I be shooting? It shoots really well! The 22magnum shell casings appear to have swelled in the cylinder preventing easy removal. What am I doing wrong? Is 22WMRF a lower powered cartridge to the 22WMR? What have I missed here?

I am not sure what you are talking about ..

the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire is also called .22 WMR, .22 Magnum, .22 WMRF, .22 MRF, or .22 Mag. It's all the same cartridge.

There is an older cartridge that looks close to the .22 Magnum .. The .22 WRF (also called the .22 Remington Special). It's lower powered than the .22 Magnum.

If the barrel says .22 WMRF or .22 Magnum or .22 WMR it will take any .22 Magnum.

You also could have the 22 WRF that Jim mentioned

it will swell up and stick in a 22 Mag chamber.

I fired 12 magnum rounds and had to hammer the shells out with a rod! It must be tfor the old cartridge as the pistol is an older Harrington and Richards

If it is it should be marked "WRF" or

"Winchester Rimfire" .. the Magnums would be too long to chamber easily.

Take a light and look at the chambers and

see if they are rough. That would cause the fired rounds to stick.

I looked up the pistol serial no and it was made in 1980. It definitely is marked 22WMRF. The cartridges I fired that stuck were Olin 22Win Mag, 30 grain rated at 2250 fps for small game. Looked at the cylinder and all 6 cylinder walls are smooth. Was that too hot?

It shouldn't be. Those are made for any .22 Magnum.
