What is the shortest barrel revolver or single shot that you all have seen by someone hunting large game? Also what caliber was it?
Knew a hog farmer up in SW Virginia who used

A SW Chiefs Special on a big doe at about 75 yards 38 special of course. He wasn't hunting per se at the time just what he had on him while working. Took a rest on a fence post , touched it off and down she went with a neck shot.
Of course this was almost 30 years ago, and we were supposed to use at least a 6 inch barrel and .35 cal with 500 ft Lb minimum at the muzzle.
Wow that's something

It was pretty salty and had no trouble shoving a 400 gr. at over 1200 fps. Later, I calmed down a bit, matured some, and had a custom ElDiablo contracted with a 4” (state minimum for primary arm) in .44 Special. It is astonishingly accurate. I’ve only shot one sheep and a feral dog with it, very efficient with nothing wasted. 200/240 gr. JHP at 900-1000 fps.
Could you

This is my first Reeder Custom. It had a stock, steel, Blackhawk grip frame. Not a good idea on a .475 LB. It actually cut my hand and made me bleed several times, just too much to hang onto.
I don't have the pictures handy, but Gary re-worked the gun later to a "Gunfighter" grip frame and more hand filling laminated grips. THIS made the gun tolerable. It was wonderfully accurate too. Regrettably I sold it to sponsor a Reeder Custom #6 to my specifications in .510 GNR, which I still have and use.
I've tried to keep tabs on the gun and its new owner (nice fellow who still has it) in case I have the opportunity to buy it back one day.
Wow now that's cool

as I came home one day I saw a coyote jump out of our backyard fence. I had a female coy-dog that was in heat. I stopped the car, jumped out and pulled my .38 Derringer and shot him as he ran across the road in front of me.
It was all I had with me. I usually had it in my pocket and used it several times .. once to stop an attacking rooster that was after my 6 year old daughter.
I once had a 10mm bond arms Derringer

I shot the Javelina sow as it ran past me. Maybe 25 or 30 feet away. She ran less than 50 feet and was done.
I guess that shows that standard pressure 45 colt is plenty

And have demonstrated that for 150 years. Though the Cor-Bon factory 200 gr. JHP's are rated +P ... Velocity 1100 fps.
Ah mk that makes sense
