Still trying to trade for this odd old Winchester. It's slick, being a pre-64, but an unusual one. They really didn't catch on, the "rifle" version with pistol grip. Any scope would have to be side mounted, which actually works ok, but seem a little awkward. It's best suited for a nice receiver sight. But it is soooo long! It feels unusual compared to the nice little 20" M94 saddle guns we are so used to. It was a nice idea that was not very well accepted. They did have a fancier version with checkering and a rare 20" version too. I know many are seen in .32 Win. Special cal. (8mm - .321" !) that seem to be the preferred models.

I was having a little fun with cropping the pictures...

what do you want for it?

Now it's a .30-30, not a .32. Right now

it's technically Doug's. He sold it to a guy but when it was delivered via UPS it had the toe broken off and the pistol grip had a chunk out of it. I repaired it all soundly and you can see the line on the grip if you look, but it's good and blended pretty well. I think it was made about WWII. My stuff showed right about the war, 1940 - 45, but I know the war interrupted production.

I have an old post-64 "Antique model" M94 20" that has some small outer pitting and I was going to sell it and a couple other things to pay Doug so I would not have to explain all that stuff to a potential buyer, who might be picky. It's a good shooter and would be a great candidate for a custom.

It was a bit of a task to fix…

the model 64's were all pre-war (WWII that is). I know the old family rifle was built in '37 and in 25-35 Winchester. I've always liked long barrels, but never had a horse so horseback carry and handiness was never an issue. The 25-35 is a VERY accurate rifle and back in the day our example was used to take every legal game animal species in Arizona. It's been a bit of a hex on me in that I've never seen a deer when carrying it, but my brother got his first whitetail with it and it's still up to the task if the shooter is.

The buttstock on this one is in far worse condition than yours. I think it was whittled out of a two by four with a jackknife. But that doesn't affect the function!

That oozes character! I like the 25-35

I have a single shot custom Martini 310 in the caliber. Gary's .256 Falcon is basically a .25-35 Uber Improved. You cannot fireform by firing the .25-35, I've tried, they split. But necking a .30-30 to .257 does fine on once fired cases.

In the TC it gives near .257 Roberts performance in the single shot handgun!

Once at the Y-O ranch, my hunting partner Doug, took an Encore in .25-35 WCF with factory 117 gr. FN bullets. At perhaps 1800-1850 fps. He laid waste to a pile of cull little TX Whitetails. All shots were clean through with minimal meat damage and no chasing wounded critters! Low recoil and actually pretty flat shooting, a long .257 bullet is hard to stop.
