Shooting My Old 1911 Carry Gun

The gun I carry quite a bit is a 1911 Filipino-made .45 ACP. I don't have a lot invested in it but it runs like a clock and gives me the two things I want in an auto-loader carry gun: RELIABILITY & PENETRATION.

I carry hardball or hardcast 230 gr. flat nose ... usually loaded over 6 gr. of Unique. I have some of the cast flat nose loaded over Blue Dot that do a bit over 1000 fps .. but I figure those will hammer the gun pretty hard so I don't shoot many of those. They do recoil pretty hard.

The ivory grips are from my friend Paul Persinger who is a talented grip-maker. He heard I was carrying a 1911 and sent me the set, saying if you carry a 1911 it should have ivories on it.

It's like putting a $50 saddle on a $10 horse ... but they look nice, fit well and feel good. And yes, they are legal because we both live in Texas.

Did you cast those Jim? If so, what mold?

A good friend cast them and sent me about 30 pounds of them. I am not sure what mold he used.

I think that is the H&G 292 mold. I will have to check
