Have you ever used a 22lr conversion kit in a 5.56 AR?

Wondering if they work and if they might be handy in a push comes to shove situation. Many thanks.

Kase said with a 100% stock gun it would normally

work, but he said for the price of a good conversion kit and the ARs being priced lower these days , you could buy a 22 LR AR-15 and not have to worry about it.

Good point. Thank you both.

My experiences with them, they tend not to be very accurate, and they tend to lead up the barrel. (You are running a slightly smaller, all lead bullet that will obturate up to full diameter for the barrel).
5.56 / .223 barrels have a much faster twist rate than barrels meant for .22LR. (Typical twist rate for .22LR is 1:16", whereas 5.56 is 1:7, 1:8, 1:9 ie)

I have also had lots of issues with function; feeding, extracting, etc.

You are better off building or buying a dedicated .22rf AR.
I have used Nordic Components complete uppers to build two completely different setups.

The one I built for my wife is a 9.5" pistol, and the one I built for my stepson is a 16" "sniper rifle".

Both guns function flawlessly
