Reeder Custom Guns - If you were in the market for a LW Commander

What would you pick, and why? Colt? Does the frame have an insert at the feed ramp? Ruger? Does it take aftermarket parts readily? Springfield Armory? Smith &Wesson? How is that scandium? Series 70 vs 80 firing mechanism? External extractor issues with the pin walking into the frame? Considering getting another LW. Currently have a Para Expert LW.

SR-1911 lightweight commander in your favorite bore diameter, pick your favorite holster, put an arched blackstrap on it, get rid of the thin grips and add grips that fit your hand and never look back. ymmv

But I like them both and you can usually find a bargain in the 1911 field. With a whole bunch of guys switching to 9mm sometimes you can catch a .45 cal. deal as well.

I hada an all steel Ruger SR1911 Commander, it was heavy. Still have it but bought a Kimber Ultra Carry .45, really lightened my load considerably, newver going back to commander size again.

But I’ve given to carrying a 26 oz. 10-shot G30’s of late or the 19 oz. (!) Kahr PM45 6-shot. Commanders are cool, I just can’t find room for it.

Recommend it enough. The only mod I’ve made is changing out the front sight to a fo/tritium. The only thing I don’t care for but it’s not a deal breaker is the extended slide stop lever. Other than these, it’s all I’d ever want in a LWC
