Good Morning All. I do hope all is well.
I was poking around on the net and thought about the Colt Anaconda 44 magnum. It is an impressive revolver. Great action but I wonder how durable it is?
How would you compare it to say any of the Ruger Redhawk or Super Redhawk offerings? Thank you.
I had a 44, still have a 45 Colt Anaconda

My first Anaconda I bought back when they first came out. I shot it so much the ejector rod kept coming loose so I sold it. I would *NOT* say it could digest a steady Redhawk-level diet. Think of it more like a 629. I later bought a 6" 45 Colt, and I still have that one. I do *NOT* shoot Redhawk level loads in that one either. I save those for my Redhawk. Now I see where Colt(CZ?) or whoever they are now have brought back the Anaconda in 45 Colt, saying it is in the "Kodiak family," whatever that means. My older Anaconda is nice, and more of a safe-queen these days than a weekend shooter. If you want to shoot nuclear level loads, stick with Ruger, IMO and my $.02. YMMV
I like the gun but concur. Not in RH class

I was a bit shocked when I ordered one myself. It is just an up-scaled Trooper MKIII etc. The big cylinder latch bolt holds the cylinder at the back and the pawl pushes against the gear, tightening things when the trigger is pulled. There is no locking of the ejector rod (S&W) nor locking at front of the cylinder like a RH. It's just beefy.
The Differences in a RH and Super are mainly in the powering of the hammer and thickness/robust nature of the barrel threading. This incorporates the scope mounting on the Super as well. The Super's frame extension at the barrel threads is like 100% increased. It also adds weight and looks "different". The original style RH uses only ONE spring to power both the hammer and trigger return. The Super has one for each, independent operating. More like a GP100, enlarged. Both guns lock soundly at the front and back of the cylinder when in battery, in like manner.
The most impressive to me is the DA Dan Wesson. It locks really sound both for and aft. Plus is is just a huge rig. It's barrel is held fast at the front of the shroud via special nut. It holds tension at both ends actually.
Thank you to you both for this information.

I was at a gun shop a few towns away and had the chance to handle a 6 inch Anaconda. Nice feel but I wondered how it would stand up to hard use. Again. Thank you.
