They're an 11" high waterproof leather boot. I wear there for everything I do outdoors except hiking. Since my son joined the cub scouts I found there are better shoes for hiking. A good quality cross trainer or even better, a trail runner type shoe gets me much less foot fatigue. Trail runners are a lot like dual sport tires. You can find models more trail than runner or the other way around too. Altra makes several great ones, but they ain't cheap.
