and that was the reason for the steel core ammo, in theory to go thru ballistic armor. The liberal press jumped on that immediately calling it a "cop killer" round even though no cop was ever shot with it. The ammo was banned from importation and immediately became something everyone had to have, which jacked the prices up. I never heard of it actually being banned by any state but it was banned from being imported so it dried up real quick. Then the rumor came out that the Secret Service that protected the president carried the FN pistol. Whether that was a rumor or actually true I have no idea. But the pistol and ammo had all kinds of negative things going against it and soon faded into oblivion.
Hopefully the new Ruger 57 will clear up a lot of those problems and hopefully the price of the gun and ammo will be reasonable enough for the gun to sell. At the time it was out, the ammo was about twice what the 22 Magnum was so that was one more strike against it.
