burros and a few camels. The camels were from a bad idea to chase the Apaches back a hundred years ago. The people in the know (that's a joke) figured the cavalry could cover more ground on a camel and do so without much water than on horseback. When the idea flopped the camels were turned loose. Every now and then we hear about a camel being seen down in the southern part of the state.I have had people tell me that is just a fairy tale but I have 2 good friends that worked for Game & Fish (retired now) and both have told me they saw a camel or two down in southern Arizona. One said a young camel was hit by a truck and the people that called it in said it was a cow elk.

Now no shit boys, here is how it happened. The burros were destroying the area down in the Grand Canyon and around the various big dams up in the northern part of the state. For years they wanted us to shoot the burros. Then the do gooders got involved and no more shooting. Now the federal agencies trap the burros and give them to people as "pets". Now a wild burro becoming tame and being a household pet is another of those fairy tales Jim Taylor mentioned.

A family a couple of houses down from us got one of them and the thing brayed all day and night and I heard he pretty much destroyed their stable. They would go out and offer him a carrot or something and he would bite them. I never heard what happened to the burro. Maybe someone got smart and shot him.

One other thing I had never heard of outside of an Indian reservation is someone eating a burro. Now I am all for it as I hate wasting the meat from any animal other than maybe a skunk, and one of our Misfits on here that scrapes cancer off a tree and makes cookies out of it has probably eaten skunk. And if that blows up his skirt, then I am all for it. I am sure some people look at me askance when I mention one of my favorite meats is Mountain lion. Great eating and strange meat too. I can put a blood red steak on the grill and 2 minutes later I look at it and it has turned into white meat, just like chicken. but it is really good eating.
