use blue for the rings as they might need to be changed if the scope gets damaged. I never switch my scope bases on my guns and barrels so I always use red for most applications. For my heavy recoiling guns like my 450 GNR and 416 GNR Encores, I mix up a green pea size batch of 2 part epoxy and apply that to the bottom of the scope base and top of the barrel. I don't want to have to worry about it coming loose on a hunt.
