normal human needs, but I enjoy them. Years ago good friend Joe Benner (real name Huelet Benner), who shot for the military in the 50s and early 60s and set some records that still stand, was coming down with Alzheimers. He came by the shop one day and handed me a big box. Inside were 3 guns. He wanted to give them to me before the Alzheimer got too bad.
One was a High Standard 44 Auto Mag from when they distributed them. Joe was a factory rep at the time, mainly due to him using High Standard pistols to set the various records. The second gun was his High Standard Supermatic in 22 LR. This was his baby and one that he set all those records with. The 3rd was just a custom 1911 45 ACP an Army armorer slicked up for him. That 22 High Standard is one of my favorites. It had no finish on it and was pretty ratty. Joe had been out of the Army for almost 20 years and had neglected it a bit. And this being Florida the humidity had got to it. He asked me to fancy it up a bit and reblue it and he would give it to me, which I did. Anyway that is probably my favorite 22 LR, not due to it being a very accurate 22 LR but because it was from a friend. Joe passed on a while after that.
