No need to reinvent the wheel

This hails from 1957. I bought it for $75 and parkerized it, added some old stock Numrich grips and it shoots MOA with ammo it prefers. How can you top that. Plus magazines are $20. You take the new made mags and switch the button to the other side. There you go. It's competition of the day were the Colt Woodsman and varied High-Standards. Both are gone today due to manufacturing costs and their high refinement. They were fantastic shooters but just too fancy. The Ruger trigger is crude by comparison but that can be helped. Mine is fine from tens of thousands of rounds fired over the last couple centuries.
