choices are based on 3 guns to protect my home, forage, or be able to change to dealing with the unexpected. I’ll completely buck the trend and not select a handgun. I would choose a Mossberg combo shotgun so I could hunt small game or waterfowl if needed, use either sabot or rifled slugs if I had the want or need, and use it as a last ditch home defense gun. I’d also select an AR-15 as primarily a high capacity defensive firearm that I could also forage with if necessary. I spent four years of my life armed with an M-16 and didn’t feel burdened by it and I didn’t feel a need to carry a sidearm. If I have folks coming into my house, I’d find spike of 30 round magazines a whole lot more comforting than a handgun with half the capacity. The last firearm would likely be a Marlin 39M....a fine foraging gun, simple to care for, easy to tote, and if I need to get deep in the hills for a period of time I can easily carry enough ammo to put meat in our camp for several months.....while the other guns keep us well defended. I’d be more interested in staying alive than getting in a shootout.... and I certainly wouldn’t be going out looking for a fight. Besides that I have plenty of food canned, in the freezer, dried, or growing on the farm plus plenty of fish in the area to keep us fed for a long long time.
