It’s for when you have some older guns around like trapdoors you done care to get ammo mixed and blow them in half. It’s dying a slow death though, the idea didn’t gel completely. It’s way better than the .444 which is a pisser to load for with anything more than 265 grs.

For half the money I can build up an AR platform in .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM, or .50 BW. Ugly but they work.

The .450 Marlin does have considerably less capacity than a normal .45-70 so pressures will be a bit higher load for load. And it’s about tapped with anything over a 405 gr.
