worth regarding how my truck is stocked: I don’t consider my truck to be a bug out vehicle. I’m just a guy who hates not being prepared when one of life’s challenges happen in my life. I’m a farm boy who also happens to love his hunting, fishing, and outdoor life in general so my cargo bed box contains a couple of chains and straps (had to move more than one limb or small tree out of my way after heavy storms). Got a hatchet, machete, saw and spare blades, and a good folding Army entrenching tool (shovel for the civilians)....all of which have been helpful more than once either on the farm or clearing debris away from roads. A good assortment of hand tools (never know when you might need to work on your truck, trailer, boat, or someone else’s vehicle). I keep a “lube kit” in a small box....it contains a can of Kroil (lots of uses), a small grease gun, a 4 oz bottle of Slip 2000 EWL, and a can of degreaser. A small spool of mechanic’s wire, an assortment of zip ties, bungee cords, ratchet straps, rope, and parachute cord. A roll of duct tape, a roll of electrical tape, and LED trouble light, a variety of hose clamps, screws, nuts, bolts, washers, and nails. A couple of tarps, and as of late a small stainless steel grill grate. You would be surprised what you can manage to get in a box if you’re neat, organized, and don’t go overboard. In my truck I keep a blanket, a space blanket, a poncho, and a good first aid kit. Always have some hard candy, a multi-tool, flashlights, and a solar charger, in the console. Again, my thought isn’t about bugging out but rather being prepared for things that happen in life.
I’ve had to deal with storm damage, repairing damaged fencing, helping someone with a broken down vehicle, and dealing with a few first aid issues. I think each person should stock theirs according to their own needs or possible challenges. I also carry a deck of playing cards, some word games/puzzles, a tablet, coloring book and Yahtzee supplies in my seat pouches....in case the grandkids want some entertainment. If you utilize your interior storage compartments wisely, you would be amazed what you can do. I live out in the PA farm country so I would likely bug in and wait things out.... but if I happen to be out when life happens, I can pretty much be ready for whatever comes my way. Hope this helps.
