I've found that if you carry a 44 Magnum revolver, it's best to keep the ammunition warm. I went hiking with a friend of mine on a warmish March day of about 5 above. After an hour or so of walking around I decided to take a few shots. I fired a couple of rounds then handed the single action revolver to him so he could try it. His first try made a click sound instead of a bang and he was standing there with the revolver at arms length and a scared look on his face. I took the gun back and inspected it, opened the loading gate and rotated the cylinder and when the round that had been struck on the primer lined up with the bore again, it went off. I learned that day that a heavy load of H-110, a standard pistol primer and cold weather don't mix well. Some of the rounds fired but that one didn't. I do my best to keep my handgun and ammo inside my coat when out walking on winter days.
