30-30

My first large rifle was a Marlin 336 Texan in 30-30. I was 12 when dad bought it for me. Countless mule deer and elk have been taken with the 170 grain bullet and to this day I would not hesitate to take it on a hunt. The rifle and the round are a keeper. It taught me all about bullet placement and how to close the distance on a animal to 30-30 range with open sights. A few years back a few of us went on a deer hunt and all agreed to use lever guns with open sights. There were four 30-30's in camp and one 35 Remington. Within the second day of the hunt we all had taken deer. Long live the rifle and round of a simpler time.
