Explanation is necessary and if you don't understand no explanation is possible. But I will try to explain in just a few words. Nostalgia, History, Keith, Skelton, and maybe just plain stubbornness. I am planning on having one of my replica Model 92 Winchester .44-40s converted to .44 Special by setting the barrel back, re-chambering it to the Special Special and cutting the barrel to 16-1/4 inches. Will I gain anything by changing from .44-40, another cartridge I really like, love, appreciate, desire? Probably not, however I just like the idea of having a Model 92 in .44 Special.
