and then went to work to see if it was really true.

The old Eastern concept of "truth" or "fact" was not the gathering of information. It was gathering information PLUS personal experience.

These days people can look up information about almost anything. They think they have the truth. But until it is applied and tried all they have is information.

When I was younger P.O. Ackley was one of the folks who taught me that. Ed McGivern was another.

Jesus taught it also. When talking about the things he taught, he said, "If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is of God, or I am speaking from Myself." (JOHN 7:17)

Information plus doing it .... and sometimes doing it is how you gather the information.
