It was written at the dawn of the concept. He had a little promotional interest in his ideas but I think he was more driven by how well it worked and wanted to show others. The writing business back then was more powerful, more exclusive, than today. He didn’t fit the click and was largely ignored except by a few.
Enjoy! I’m still tempted to duplicate his old Italian Remington 1858 hunter. I scoped a Lyman Plains .54 and kicked myself silly. All based on his writings. My cap and ball pig at HHC was aligned with meeting his son there too. Very special to me!
