begin work on the ancient Colt SAA. My objective is to find a close to traditional load that hits to the sights. I have not had a chance to slug the bore or pin gauge the cylinder throats.
I once had a New Service in .38-40 that squeezed the bullets down to about 0.398" then they rattled down a 0.403" bore. My solution was to enlarge the throats to be more compatible with the bore and use appropriate bullets. The results went from keyholing to actual groups. I learned a lot.
Another trick may be to use softer bullets that even after being squeezed through tight throats will bump up after slamming into the barrel throat as they are pushed down the bore. I think that is plausible. I am tempted to order the 98 gr. HBWC to do my initial shooting and also use for my other .32 wheelgun needs in .32 Long through .327. I feel the hollow base skirt would adapt and help with some minor flaws. Although I sure do like the traditional .32-20 115 gr. Flat Nose tough. I need to pick only one to start, order (500).
