Cast bullet shooters have used the concept for years. It truly comes to bear with Rimfire and any sub-sonic applications, adding some punch! It penetrates more true (straight) and does impart more energy.

I once set up two chronographs in series with a uniform impact target between. The idea was to measure impact fps then exit fps hoping to measure the "energy" imparted to the target. This was to be the subtraction of calculated difference. I tried Flat point vs RN and there was a notable significant difference. The test was limited but served it's intended scientific purpose. I think I recorded that fun little test someplace.
