Every once in a while I think of trading something off

just to get something new. Unlike some, I can't keep them all. With three kids at home it makes sense for some gun money too. But every time I think of trading off the Kahr P40 I go get it and back out. I've been reading Keith lately and some of the early gunfights he speaks of. I'd sure hat to be part of any of that. But back then they had no hollow points or tactical stuff, other than the scattergun. They might have been around but not many where he was. Interestingly a couple times the lowly .22 LR saved the day. Not instantly but it turned the tide through accurate connection. I think Keith disregarded much less than 200 gr. anything for fighting. Except the .36 and up pure lead ball (.36/130 gr. & .44/150 gr.).

He probably wouldn't like the P40 but would be forced to admit it the full equal of the 1873 .38 WCF. He cheated with his, shooting .40 Cal. Ballard rifle slugs from it. I got 1000 fps from a cast 200 gr., which is all the .40 S&W can handle. Heavier won't really fit. The antique Lyman SWC 170 and HP versions both ran fine at 1050 fps which was impressive. You feel it too from the 16 oz. gun. But it is thin, has night sights, and has a fantastic smooth DA trigger pull. It's exactly the same size as a 1903 Colt .32, only about 6 oz. lighter!

I have a collection, gathered over the years, of Kahr guns. I just kind of like them. No buttons, light, good triggers. I've never had any reliability issues. I hear others have, I'm not bad to limp wrist. The .380 likes truncated bulleted ammo though. It's just a replacement for the old .25 ACP in my mind. But it does hit harder. Performance from a 3" 9mm is not the same as from a 5" but for the size it's good enough. I admit I carry the PM45 mostly though. A Glock 30s is next in line. It's nice to have choices for the fun of it. Honestly its probably best to stick to one and get good with it. Keith carried a 3 lb. gun on his belt every day. It pulls my britches down.
