The loading gate adaptations and ejector rods that mounted in the place of loading levers are really clever. Except for strength (and all they had back then were BP so no matter really) they are about the equal of modern SAA in practical function.
The number of times a Colt SAA would likely be fired in comparison to a C&B must be very notable. Even with paper cartridges the C&B is pretty laborious to load. Then the fouling was an issue too.
I want to dive into making paper cartridges soon myself. They look useful and fun.
