From my limited experience I think two factors

should be considered in a schedule. Rounds fired AND time. The oils and time seem to deteriorate the plastic of the buffers. Of course shooting you are packing up the molecules too, this accelerates the process.

I'm sure there are opinions but nothing is as good as keeping track yourself and making a schedule based upon your use and notes on inspection.

I have a couple guns that utilize O-rings. Some last decades and seem to be more than adequate. On a Remington 1100 shotgun you probably should replace them (o-rings) every twenty years no matter if they need it or not!
