When I was a teen there were a few old men in my church who were WW2, Korea & Vietnam vets. They were all men of incredible character and humility. They rarely spoke about their experiences in the war.
One of them was a Marine who fought at Iwo Jim (and was wounded there). After the war he got out but signed up again to fight in Korea. He was a small guy but had more gumption than anyone in this new generation.
