Shooting the 1862 Police Pistol
Friday, September 03, 2021, 09:49

I got to the range early this morning before the ground started boiling and was able to run the little 1862 Police pistol for awhile.

I fired a few shots just to see where it was hitting. I figured it would shoot high with that little bitty brass front sight. It hit about a foot high at 50 feet.

The sun was behind me and I could see the sight pretty well. I know people complain about the rear sight being a notch in the hammer but if you can see it, it will do the job.

The loads I shot today were fairly light. I fired some full power loads but this was more about me getting acquainted with the pistol. And if I held it still they went pretty much where I wanted them.

It is an easy gun to shoot .. at least for me. I am tickled with it. I will use heavier charges later and try some 3Fg black powder also.

A side note: The caps I am using I purchased back in the 1980's. The same with the powder. Nearly 40 years and still working!
