In 8th grade someone brought a can of S&W Mace

We had assembly that day. Some movie on the dangers of VD or Reefer. I was impressed with the effectiveness of the product. Suddenly there is no air to breathe, then it's like sucking in pepper. Tears and the runny nose. Highly effective at dispersing crowds in a building.

It was not ME!

The Math teacher got three rows of us boys in a room. Same for girls in another room. They gave us a searing lecture then called us out one by one to intimidate us into ratting on the person who did the deed and or had the Mace. Not that I approved of the act and I'm still happy no one sustained lasting physical effects, but I cannot tolerate a RAT. I remember wording my response in turn VERY carefully. The exercise of interrogation was seemingly inconclusive. I noted all parties were at school the next day. Jr. High is just the beginning of a difficult age to teach!

I remember Doug's grandfather, a Sargent in WWII, telling a story. They hooked Germans up to the field phone generator. Details overlooked. Mr. Jack recounted "If a man has something to tell, he needs to tell it". LOL Maybe for Germans.
