Back in the 1970's we raised Brahma mix

Brahman is an American breed of zebuine-taurine hybrid beef cattle. It was bred in the United States from 1885 from cattle originating in India. The cows can be mixed with other American breeds very successfully. They are great cows and while they do not bring as much as some more focused "beef" breeds you are not looking to pull the calves in a sleet storm either. They practically shoot the babies out and are very protective mothers that require respect. They also eat more brushy things than, say Angus.

You can't tell by looking but I was raised a very reluctant cowboy. Rode horses from about 4 yrs. old and all. But I really wanted to ride motorcycles. Every day before school I was feeding and watering the calves or breaking ice at the pond, feeding and counting them after school too. We raised some Angus later in life, about 15 yrs. ago. Had some fun but were at a point of getting serious or folding our hand. I do think we need about 3 good heifers so I can keep us in beef and sell a couple every year to pay for it, breaking even for the meat. I think I can pull that off. We have about (35) 1/2 size Nigerian Dwarf milk goats right now, they have too much character to eat. Like deciding to eat your pet dog. But I sure could in an emergency!
