I thought it a good idea, not for defense necessarily but

For hunting AR platform guns it makes sense. The UBER ugly 9mm lever guns on the market (why is is $1200?) made me think of an alternative. Levering on a non traditional platform is not too practical. But a pump, that seems logical. I'd think the AR would be about the most adaptable rig for a "pump" action conversion you could find. I've also seen "Straight-pull" bolt conversions too. Even cheaper. All I need is the gas block you can turn off.

My objective is to NOT have my .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM or .50 brass ejected into the weeds! Any other motivation is subjective.

Still I think a very inexpensive upper conversion is reasonable. Some hawk $1200 pump AR's, I don't see it. Ditto a "bolt action" AR platform. Maybe a couple, three, hundred for a conversion, I could do that. They seem to have figured a gas block fix to use conventional produced barrels.

I like the looks of this.

The validity seems good functioning.
