and it had a non-functional magazine. The brass insert was apparently made from ??? in an attempt to replace a lost original - at least that's my guess. I contacted Henry and they sent me a new one, it fit the rifle perfectly and now it's running smoothly, at least as far as I could check by running a magazine full through without firing. The part came in as I was packing to return south, I don't know if he's taken it to the range or not since then. Anyway, Henry's customer service is well spoken of by the folks I know that have used it. I'm looking forward to my next trip north and a chance to take the rifle to the range. A handy little leveraction 22 is a fun gun indeed when it works properly.
