I got the 5.5" all stainless whole new AMT gun. I wanted it as the top had the grooved mounting surface. No messing with drilling or tapping. I regretfully sold it and went to a Browning target model, the one with a 9" barrel and the Weaver mount atop the barrel, no sights. It was very accurate and trigger was OK, but no aftermarket support, some plastic parts I didn't like, and difficult to work on. I went back to Ruger's.
Even an old High Standard or Colt Huntsman will soot the eyes out, without any mods needed. Some are easier to shoot than others, with better sights (Victor or Target Models) but they all shoot. Even the J.C. Higgins by HS autos. You can still find them at a bargain. Other than the expensive mags they are usually a sleeper deal. Folks generally don't know High Standard made them, and they all have Olympic gold medal bones.
