but "flame cutting" of the top strap does not hurt anything other than collector value. It will not ruin the gun or hurt it's accuracy. And the big thing is, it will stop after the "cut" goes far enough to lessen the pressure hitting it.

The big thing that really hot loads do is burn out the throat and forcing cone area. I did that to my first 454 Casull. It took a LOT of really hot ammo to do it, but I was young and thought I was recoil-proof and did it. Mostly with 2400 and H110.
