I like the G20, have a custom one myself with a 6” conventional rifled barrel so it will actually shoot cast bullets well. Polygonal bores in 10mm really need about .403” bullets to fit right. A $75 barrel turns any G20 into a custom poor boy G40, performance wise anyway. Factory ammo is sadly low power, barely more than .40 S&W. The custom offerings are an exception. Not quite .41 mag. performance but good penetration and generally reliable.

As you know bears scare me. I’ve been close to wild ones now. Validated my concerns, mucho respect. Guide George was quite sobering. He did not carry a sidearm. Said you only get one shot and he wanted his to be with a .338 Magnum. I had a .510 GNR and a .440 GNR single shot Encore handgun. Felt as armed as I could be. I slept with the .510, carried it outside to pee too! A .454 would be fine with 300 gr. I just have to know it will shoot completely through from any angle. I have two FA .454, do not particularly like to shoot them with full power loads. Unless I have to and I’m scared.

The guys that live around bears say a 12 ga. pump with “good” slugs is about the lightest and most effective package you can honestly tote in bear country. Who am I to argue?!
