Jack population somewhere around 2010 or so. It was actually a Prairie Dog disease but it got our Jacks and Cottontail too.
Kase and I hunted them out of my Bronco. The areas we hunted were mostly open. We would jump a Jack near some thick brush and the race was on. Kase would hang out the window while I tried to keep up with the Jack and out of the arroyos. Kase used a shotgun. When we would get to about shooting range the Jack knew we were there. He would lay his ears back and go into over-drive.Then there was no catching up.
Unfortunately, most of our Jacks were so tick-infested that they weren't edible except a few weeks in the winter.
