Those little bores need some bore to burn the powder. More so than a large bore. Must be the volume of the bore or something.

I saw an unusual drop in my high capacity single shot small bores, .22-250AI and .17 Remington, compared to a rifle with 10" more tube. Ditto the 16" .22 K-hornet and 6" .224 K-Chuk revovler, with almost the same load.
