Finally, a little good fortune.

My father and a group of his friends go to a ranch in Texas every year on a hog hunt. I have been a couple of times but it has been a while for me. I work shift and it's difficult to arrange time off sometimes. Pop is getting older, and the hunt is getting tougher. His words to me were, "I don't have many more of those hunts left in me, I sure hope you can make this one"

This year I was able to take some vacation to get in on the trip. The plan was to leave home on the28th of Feb. So in January I put in for my vacation. However a couple of weeks ago I received a summons for jury duty at the district court starting on the 26th of Feb. and be available for on call for a two week period. The summons also stated to fill out the questionnaire and add any reason you feel you need to be excused or have your duty put back until a later date. If I did not receive an answer then I was to be on time and dressed appropriately.

My brief note explained the time of scheduled trip, advanced notice given to employer and note from supervisor confirming. Two weeks no answer. Get out the sports coat and tie, polish the wingtips. Sad story to tell Pop.

Saturday I go to the barbershop to get presentable. The red and grey beard is starting to look more like a brush pile. My phone gave off a soft vibration in my pocket letting me know I had a text. I left it for later. I was enjoying the Saturday morning conversations of old men that have seen way more than myself. When I was finished and back to my jeep, I called the wife and checked my message.
"You are no longer required to report for jury duty. Thank you for your service ".

Get out the rubber boots and sharpen the broad heads! It's on! They will be using compounds and crossbows. I'll have a 50lb hybrid longbow. But I am also bringing my Bisley 45 colt .
