Did some shooting with the Ruger Mk4 Lite

After the monthly meeting I headed out to the range to do some shooting. I was a tad concerned the last time I shot my new Ruger Mk4 Lite.

It seemed that for every two or three magazines, I'd get a failure of some kind. Either a failure to feed or a misfire. Initially I attributed it to the newness of the gun. It had to break in, so to speak. A second trip was worse in a way but I have to be blunt and attribute it to some twenty plus year old lead ammo that has a lot of gloppy lubricant on it. I figure that it would be relegated to revolver or manual repeater use only. Just burn it up and move on, so to speak.

I then figured that after a cleaning and use of brand new Winchester HV ammo rated at 1300 fps would be the key to the kingdom of reliability.

So again at the range it appeared to run the same pattern. About one per two to three magazines for some type of failure. I did inspect the misfired round. It does appear to have a light primer strike. A dent but not a deep one for a lack of a better term. Other shooters concurred with the observation.

i did a bit of checking on the net and it seems to be a problem with the MK 4's. The solution some have found was to get a TandemKross titanium firing pin and eagle claw extractor.

So. Should I go the Tandem kross route? Send the gun back to Ruger? Any other suggestions?
